Movie Blunders

Here is a list of the top 19 Movie Blunders of All Time. Being in the entertainment industry for as long as I was, I thought i had heard of them all. The most interesting are:

18) In The Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. During his story of torment and personal redemption he is consoled by Red (Morgan Freeman), an imaginary friend only he can see. Yet in several scenes, other characters can be seen looking directly at Red, and even reacting when he speaks.

12) Also from the film Gladiator, Maximus (Russell Crowe) is a Roman general who only longs to return to his home in Spain and work on his farm. The only problem is people in Spain don't work.

11) In Braveheart, the vast majority of the men are wearing skirts throughout the entire film, but this is never commented on by anyone.

6) A massive editing problem slips into the final cut of Taxi Driver, where Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) repeatedly questions someone off camera “are you talking to me?” The problem is, as a different shot soon shows, no one is talking to him.

Mess in the tub

Libby Danielle followed in her namesake's footsteps tonight and pooped in the bathtub for the first time. It was just a small turd so Beth scooped it out with her hands.

Naughty License Plate

On my way back to Lansing from Flint, I caught this naughty license plate on film. Apparently the Michigan Secretary of State doesn't speak Spanish.

Poor Baby

A few weeks ago while the Damon, Jen and Izzer were at our house playing cards, Izzer was put down to sleep in the pack-n-play. After 15-20 minutes of screaming, her mom went to go see what was wrong. It looked like she had exploded. There was vomit EVERYWHERE. Her mom's first reaction was to comfort her child. Beth's first reaction as a pediatrican was to take pictures. I have been given permission by the Reeds to post this picture for a week.

***POST EDIT*** The vomit picture has now been removed. I decided to replace it with a picture of a monkey in a cowboy suit.

Cup Talent

It looks like Libby inherited my talent for stacking cups. Over the Easter weekend, Libby's Pappa was so impressed that she could balance a stacking cup on her head for what seemed like hours.

Messy Baby

A few weeks ago Beth was feeding Libby some bananas. I was in the other room and was about to tell Beth what a neat eater Libby was turning into. I walked into the kitchen and saw this disaster.

Splash Splash Splash

Here is a short video of Libby playing in the water.

Relaxing Weekend

We were invited over to the Reed's house this weekend for a relaxing weekend of fun in the sun. We had so much fun on Saturday with Damon, Jen, Izzerbelle and Damon's parents and younger brother who were up for the week that we did it again on Sunday. The weather couldn't have been any nicer, it was sunny, 85 and not a cloud in the sky on both days. Beth and I were amazed at how much surface area Libby had to cover with sunscreen.

Libby and I enjoying the crystal clear water.

Libby got her suit from her Aunt Laura for Easter. It fits her great now...but in a few weeks I think she may have to let Izzerbelle borrow it as it will be to tight for her thighs and tummy.
Libby took a shining to Grandpa Joe and was held by him for a good part of the day.

After the girls were done with the pool, Izzerbelle showed off her new duds and her Easter shades....very stylish.

Damon made his world famous guacamole and as usual Libby had to try some. She loved it as you can tell, but I think she got more on her...then in her.

We were also able to experience the time honored Reed tradition of trying to blowing water into each other's lungs using a water noodle. Damon beat his mother...but just barely.
Don't tell her grandparents, but Libby decided to go topless the last half of the day.

Mike's Birthday

While up in Michigan for the week, I went to my buddy Mike's surprise 54th birthday party. His niece Stella was kind enough to throw it for Mike since it was hard for me to plan being 800 miles away.

The party was alot of fun and I got to see a bunch of guys I use to work with. It was held at our favorite Bay City bar, The Big House. (and no, Mike is not touching my nipple in this picture)

Mike is the youngest of three children. His brother joked that he and his sister often get mistaken for Mike's parents. This is ironic since I have been mistaken for Mike's son on many occasion.

This is Stella, Mike's eldest niece. Since Mike got a boat this year, all of his presents were of a nautical theme. Stella is holding the hooker here. Stella and I have not gotten along well this year because Mike decided to leave me his boat in his will. I even voluntarily gave up his house since there is no way I could keep it up living in the mid-south.

After leaving the Big House bar, we went to Stables Cigar and Martini bar which was an old horse barn. They still had the stalls there that you could hang out in. Couches and tables were added for comfort.

It was pretty embarassing, I had ordered a Dirty Martini, but instead they accidently sent me the same thing Stella was drinking called a Tiny Bikini Martini. Instead of sending it back, I just drank it.

Gabe's Quote

My sister Susan and her kids drove me up to Detroit so Kris could drop me off at the airport yesterday. My nephew Gabe said the nicest thing to me on the drive. He said "Uncle Jon, you make such a good parent" (this is not an exact quote, but close enough).

If your happy and you know it

People have been so generous and thoughtful with sending cards and gifts to my mom since she has been sick. Yesterday alone she received about 10 cards and 3 packages. In one of the packages was a dancing chicken that sings "If your happy and you know it" and claps it's wings and jumps up and down. Libby is entralled by it. She laughs and smiles and tries to grab at it.

Spring Cleaning

I did a little spring cleaning on my cellphone today. I deleted all the contacts who I don't talk to anymore. It is nice to have a little extra room on there now.

Dog Person

I always knew my brother in law Kevin was a dog person. The last day they were here he kept lifting Stretch up and setting him in his lap. They are bestest of friends now.

Day Seven: Friday

Before Susan, Kevin and family left Friday around noon, Kevin and I finished the stairs leading down into the yard. Later that afternoon I finished the railing. Now all that has to be done is re-running one of the gutters and putting up some lattice to keep the dogs from under the deck. The deck looks great, my neighbor even told me he now has deck envy. A big thanks goes out to Kevin's brother in law Stew for drawing up the plans and to Kevin for using up a week of vacation to help me built the deck.

Loser

Don't you hate it when you call someone and they tell you they will call you right back...and then 4 hours later you still haven't heard from them? Their parents must have raised them wrong.

Day Six: Thursday

Kevin and I finished laying the 4 or 5 deck boards that were left, we layed out the lines to put up the railing, and layed a concrete pad for the steps to land on. I made a trip to Lowes to pick up 100 balusters to built the railing with. I had them stacked in the back of Kevin's mini-van. I had the back open because of the 16 foot long 2x6s that were sticking out. Apparently somewhere between Lowe's and my house, a 24 back of the balusters fell out. I went back to see if I could find them, but someone had already gotten to them and taken them. What scavengers there are in Memphis. We knocked off early today so that we could take the kids to the Memphis Children's Museum.

Day Five: Wednesday

Wednesday was the longest and most tiring day. We started installing the deck boards. We got about 95% of them installed and were able to eat pizza for dinner outside on the deck.

Apparently we have a troll living under out deck.

Day Four: Tuesday

On Tuesday the deck started looking like something. We added the 2x8 joists across the 2x10s.

We finished up Tuesday by adding the posts to hold up the railing. These were secured by 2 1/2 inch bolts.

Day Three: Monday

On day three we mounted the 2x10s on the posts. For some reason no picture was taken today. Each 2x1o was secured on the post by 3 5/8 inch bolts. This deck is going nowhere.

Day Two: Sunday

On day two we set all of the 4x4 and 4x6 posts and braced them with 2x4s and more concrete.

Day One: Saturday

My brother in law Kevin and his family came down late last night to help me build a deck. I had 9 of the 11 holes dug plus all of the lumber moved to the back yard by the time they had gotten there. Each hole was 2 feet deep and 18 inches wide. It was quite a chore to dig in this hard memphis clay.

So after running some lines, digging 2 more holes, and pouring 14 80lb bags of Quickrete, we called it a day around 11:30 a.m to let the concrete set up.

Gabe and Allie were such big helps.
